Your logo is the face of your business. A good logo helps customers quickly identify you.
While it’s not usually advisable to change your logo, it is important to maintain it.
The following factors may influence when you should think about maintaining your logo:
- Age
There is no set duration that you should update your logo. Google update their logo every 2-3 years whereas Pepsi update their logo every 15-20 years. If you have an old logo that hasn’t been updated for a few years it’s worth assessing against other modern logo’s and deciding whether you think your business image would benefit from an updated logo.
2. Business Change
Had your business experienced a significant change? You may have entered a new market sector, offer a new service or merged with another company. A significant business change can mean that you must change your logo to highlight to your customers (and potential customers) what you do.
3. Digital World Proof
If your logo was designed in the 80’s, 90’s or early 00’s it would have probably been designed for use on print advertising material. Nowadays, in a world of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and iPhone’s – it’s important that your logo is scalable and transfers well between print and digital. This may mean that your older logo needs to be simplified. Starbucks logo is a good example of this.
